Download Umbra
Version 0.4.1. Your boards live on your machine, so Umbra opens and works offline — you need the internet once, to sign in.
macOS
Apple silicon · macOS 12 or later
- 1.Open the .dmg and drag Umbra to Applications.
- 2.The first time you open it, macOS will say Umbra cannot be opened. That is because the app is not signed yet — not because anything is wrong with it.
- 3.Right-click Umbra in Applications and choose Open, then Open again. You only do this once.
Windows
64-bit · Windows 10 and 11
- 1.Run the installer.
- 2.Windows will show a blue SmartScreen warning, because the installer is not signed yet.
- 3.Click More info, then Run anyway. You only do this once.
Why does my computer warn me about this?
Because Umbra is not code-signed yet. A signing certificate costs a few hundred euros a year from Apple and Microsoft, and Umbra is free to use. That is paid for out of the first Collaboration subscriptions rather than before there are any, so for now both operating systems treat the app the way they treat anything from a developer who has not registered.
The warnings say nothing about whether the app is safe — only that nobody has paid to vouch for it. Once signing is in place the warnings go away on their own, and Umbra will update itself to the signed version.
Umbra updates itself when you ask it to — nothing is checked in the background and nothing is downloaded without you saying so.
